The “Why Not Me?” Mindset

May 17, 2025 by Angus Baynham-McColl

The truth is you are so much closer to success than you think. To be successful I understand that even average Angus is able to make an impact.

When I started coaching in 2018 my mindset was “Why not me?”

When I was in Army Cadets in 2006 my mindset was “Why not me?”

Success is not even a big deal. Do you think a million dollars is a big deal?

For most people it seems so far out of reach.

But what if I told you that you can do it faster and more easily than you think.

The reality is the extra mile is not crowded.

If you want to help other people but you feel underqualified, ask yourself if you are putting too many false prerequisites ahead of your own success.

Most people don’t succeed because they don’t even get started. The fear of not being good enough gets in the way when people are trying to get started.

You must think, “Why not me?”

You have what it takes. Use your life experience to frame yourself as an expert in the domain you have experience with. Lived experience is exceedingly valuable. I became a peer worker in mental health because I was able to share lived experience that benefits others.

I do speaking engagements because my words have power. I want you to believe that your story has power.

Once you have one success, congrats because you now have something you can repeat. Everything to do with large numbers is based off of one success. Then it becomes a matter of repetition.

Everything is won by playing the long game and being consistent enough to double down fully on your first success.

If you are on a range and you hit one target, you are capable of hitting all the targets.

In cadets I always had a “Why not me?” mindset towards my wins. I was the captain of my marksmanship team, the drill sergeant major at a summer camp, and eventually the Chief in my unit.

All of this came from the attitude that I’m good enough. Even while I was experiencing trials and tribulations in life, I decided it was God’s way of grooming me for a greater purpose. I always knew I had what it took to be successful.

The reality is you can be an authority today because all people of authority are self-appointed.

The fast lane and the extra mile is not a crowded place.

The world needs so much help right now, and you are more than qualified to start helping people today. I started this blog with a “Why not me?” mindset.

A million dollars? Why not me?

Success? Why not me?

The best possible girlfriend? Why not me?

You need to decide that you are the real deal.

At the start people will doubt you and tell you why your plan won’t work. They will have no reference to tell you why it won’t work.

In the beginning you need to have the conviction that you can have success.

Most people in the marketplace are consumers, so being a producer rather than a consumer is going to help you have a massive edge.

You can start helping others today.

Write a script as to how you will help others succeed. Refine it, have your first success, and then double down.

Once a winner, always a winner.

To your success,

Angus

The Relationship Between Luck and Meditation

May 16, 2025 by Angus Baynham-McColl

I have been exceedingly lucky in my life. When I think the chips are down and everything is going to fall apart, there’s always something to bail me out. Alanis Morrisette in her song “ironic” says that life has a funny funny way of helping you out.

I remember in early 2018, I was doing hour long meditations for multiple days in a row. This put me in a flow state and the universe was basically giving me everything I wanted. I had 200 dollars to my name but I was in a peaceful state. In the car with my friend we were laughing our way to the casino, but it was as if we were laughing to the bank like we actually won. I hadn’t set foot in the building for a good 3 months before we finally went. I didn’t just go in thinking or believing I would win, I knew I would win. With the meditation I was doing, I was going longer than ever before. I really pushed myself to make the meditations as long as possible. I would leave the meditation feeling relaxed and optimistic.

When we got to the casino I gave my friend 100 of the 200 to try and win with. We made some money on slots early on, then went to war. The dealer would continuously flip 3’s and 2’s and the whole table was winning. Eventually we had about 700 in front us, I took the 700 to cash out and took my 200 back then split all the profits. We went to pick someone else up and came back for more at the casino. I declared my intent to leave that night with $1200.

Because I had all this good karma built up, I felt I was redeeming my good karma that I got in part from the meditation. I expected to win, so I put a hundred dollar bet on three different bets. I won all three of them and with the 600 in front of me, I eventually left the casino that night with almost 3000 dollars. My friend who got in the game because I gave him 100 left with about 1200 dollars. He went to work the next day and bought his coworkers lunch in exchange for them having to do all the work.

The relationship with meditation and luck is simple. Luck is a result of having a connection to your space. Positive assumptions and certainties are going to make you luckier. You also have more courage in this state and gamblers would win more by using larger bets. Meditation connects you with the present moment and allows you to get more positive energy. Meditation also clears up your mind and makes your intuition sharper. Doing an hour a day of meditation will allow you to be more at one with the present moment.

To your success,

Angus

Lucid Dreams and Manifestation

May 13, 2025 by Angus Baynham-McColl

I haven’t had too many lucid dreams, usually I get excited about the lucidity and the dream quickly ends.

Lucid dreaming is something I want to learn to do often.

I see life itself as having many qualities of a lucid dream. The difference is the time, the space, and the consequences of decisions. A 15 minute dream is a free for all because there are no long term ramifications for actions. In real life this dream can turn into a mess because our decisions have lasting impact.

You can reach a lucid state while awake in human form while on Earth.

Your sense of reality when lucid will start to break down.

In 2011, I was very much interested in the paranormal, life after death and enlightenment.

This caused me to question existence.

Carl Jung coined the term “synchronicity” many years ago while doing therapy with a patient. The patient was doing regression therapy and was describing a golden beetle and in the exact same moment, a golden beetle landed on the window of the office.

I experienced many synchronicities around 2011-2013.

The first wake up call from the matrix I got was a Sens game (on the same day I was at my grandfathers funeral). When I got home the Sens were playing the LA Kings and Alex Kovalev scored his 1000th NHL point at the 10:00 mark of the first period.

The clock saying 1000 when he reached that milestone forever changed my outlook on the matrix.

The prior summer I watched the movie inception, the movie made me question reality.

The difference between a dream and something that’s real is a distinction that we imagine. Imagination is everything.

Later on I tried to manifest wins for the Ottawa Senators. On the 71’st Sens game I attended, they lost 7-1. I saw that as another glitch in the matrix. The next week I went to my 72nd Sens game. With the Flyers leading 4-1 with a few minutes left, the matrix took over the game, and the Flyers scored 3 quick goals to lead 7-1 and with 20 seconds left the Sens scored the last goal of the game to lose 7-2.

I was astonished about these coincidences.

So far my thought experiment around the team was rendering evidence that our consciousness has a major impact on what actually manifests. I continued to set intentions to trust the Sens would win. After the 7-2 loss, the Sens won their next 6 games. This further confirmed I had the universe working to manifest my intent.

Life is able to manifest your desires if they are genuine desires.

Whenever my soul truly wanted something, I was always able to get it. 200 Sens games? No problem. Army Cadet Sergeant Major? No problem. Many great poker games with buddies? No problem. Working a job where I get to help people and work in my element? No problem.

The law of attraction can help you manifest as you have already done before.

You are already moving towards your true desires.

The thing that people get wrong about the law of attraction is they think they want things that they really don’t.

Wanting more money is not a real desire because you aren’t linking the desire with anything the money would give you.

If money is a source of peace of mind for you, meaning that’s what it represents, then having peace of mind no matter what money you have or don’t have is the key to manifesting it. If you think money is a source of freedom, you’ll get more money when you exercise the freedom you have now.

To be clear about what your soul truly wants, I suggest you look at what you are doing and what you are fantasising about when you put no effort into controlling your thoughts.

You might want to experience enlightenment so life can feel magical again. So what I’m saying here is you want to manifest states, not physical things. The state will attract the correct physical reflection. So you can have what you want, but it might not literally be the thing you are asking for.

When you first begin to study the law of attraction and set intentions, you’ll get initial signs from the universe.

This is so you know the intention has been heard.

As you go on in life, the coincidences may fade and manifestation might feel more ordinary.

Manifesting a burger can be done for 10 bucks.

Getting a dream house is just as simple, but it might take longer. You will probably manifest the house a long time later and when it does manifest, you’ll be like, “aha I remember this”.

After letting go of an intention it has the ability to manifest. I manifested a dog a few years ago when I forgot that I wanted to be an owner.

To your success,

Angus

Building a Business as an Author, Speaker, and Coach

May 11, 2025 by Angus Baynham-McColl

I’m in the process of building a business from my lived experience. I already work at a job where I use my lived experience to help other people. I work in a mental health unit as a peer support worker.

Before I started to work as a peer support worker, I was working as a life coach. I’m reopening my coaching practice soon.

In 2018, I decided to become a coach who would work with clients on the autism spectrum.

The mindset I had was about helping other people overcome autism related challenges. I’m on the autism spectrum and have been since I was 5.

I was able to overcome my challenges by gaining social exposure.

Learning how most people think, speak, and behave and was what made me able to emulate normal behavior. I was still myself, but I learned how to fit in with people.

I have had clients who struggled with bullying in school, and also with people who had trouble making friends. The work was focused on being a good friend first and foremost and connecting with the right people.

I was fitting in with new friends in ball hockey back in 2011-2012. At the same time, I was developing into a leader in my Army Cadet unit.

At age 19, I was leaving the Army Cadet program.

I began to play serious competitive ball hockey at this time. A lot of my friendships are from the time I spent playing ball hockey.

I became socially calibrated because of post game hangouts and chilling with my friends.

By 2018, I was 24 years old. I decided I wanted to be a life coach because I wanted to help others.

In 2016-2017, I got to know another life coach, and he helped me realize I would offer a lot of value to clients who are on the autism spectrum.

There’s another motivational speaker who is also from Ottawa who is on the spectrum. He’s fairly well known on YouTube.

I have never met him before, but I would imagine I have a lot in common with him.

The first thing I did for many years was write to share wisdom and ideas.

This isn’t my first blog. But it is the first blog I want to stick with for many years. I now have a good job, so I can afford to keep the site up and running.

To start the hero’s journey of being a helping professional, you’ll want to understand your own story and where your life experience can help other people.

I was able to join cadets a couple years after my Dad passed away in 2004. That helped me learn to be a leader and also made me far better socially. I also had my fair share of trials and tribulations. In 2010 I went through a heartbreak and it took me a good 8-10 years to move on. There was a girl who went to another high school that I liked and got rejected by.

In 2012-2013, I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and needed to take medication to function.

I used this part of my lived experience to become a peer support worker.

Now I’ve been a peer support worker for almost 3 years. Having a job that’s in your element is a foundation for future success. You are very fortunate if you have a job where you get to use your core strengths.

In the future I want to publish books, and share my story by doing speaking engagements.

The more I speak and get content out there the more I’m helping other people grow.

As an author a blog is a good way to start getting your content out there.

You can also do speaking on YT or spaces on X.

The synergy between being an author, speaker, and coach allows you to get your message out there through a few different mediums.

In 2018, I was on a speaking engagement for people on the autism spectrum. I told the audience that I do life coaching for people who are on the spectrum. I got my first offer from someone who listened to my talk. I took on the client and met with him on a weekly basis. We worked together for about 6 months.

My next client saw an ad I put online. We had a phone call, and his family wanted me to support him with high school related challenges.

My 3rd client was already a friend of mine, but wanted formal coaching. I coached him on an as needed basis until he passed away a few years ago.

Writing can get you speaking engagements, speaking engagements can get you clients who may want to do coaching with you.

It’s key to understand synergy and create a business where many different mediums can connect you with your audience.

I can write books on an array of topics that people will gain value from.

I suggest if you want to follow the same path I’m following that you look at your own unique lived experience and create content based on that.

Don’t try to copy another guru, maybe share a concept from another author if you want to help your reader. To build a good personal brand use experience that is unique to you.

You will soon find that other people will be able to relate to you more.

Publishing a free autobiography is something I’m working on right now.

I want to get my full story out there and use it as a means to help my future audience get to know me.

Charging money early on in your business may be counter-productive.

The autobiography is a gift that will allow people to know me better.

In the long run this will bring in more opportunity.

Speaking is a great way to get your message out there as well. Starting with opportunities in your city and then sharing other services you offer is a big part of it.

The more you give away up front the more of a market you will have.

I suggest you look at your life story and use your successes to help other people succeed.

The mediums are just mediums, the message is the part that really counts.

To your success,

Angus

The Law of Attraction Helped Me Become an Army Cadet Sergeant Major

May 10, 2025 by Angus Baynham-McColl

Early Career

I joined the Royal Canadian Army Cadet Program in Feb 2006.

There are 7 ranks in the army cadet program. Private, Corporal, Master Corporal, Sergeant, Warrant Officer, Master Warrant Officer, and Chief Warrant Officer.

Each unit in cadets has one RSM (Regimental Sergeant Major).

It often takes about 5-6 years for a cadet to be promoted up the ranks to become the RSM. And that’s if they even get selected for the position.

I was a young cadet in 2006 (age 12), and I had aspirations of becoming the RSM by the time I would age out of the Army Cadet program.

In 2006 I was a private who had a dream of being one of the best cadets ever.

The goal of becoming the Chief Warrant Officer in my unit was far away, and I would have to be excellent each and every year to have that chance.

My first lesson in Cadets was about rank-structure, and we learned the 7 ranks in the program and the organizational chart.

I was right away set on reaching the top of the organization. My goal was to dedicate myself to being the most excellent cadet I could possibly be.

Naturally I was visualizing my goal, I would draw pictures of my future self as the Sergeant Major of my unit.

I was reading the cadet instructional manual inside out to learn everything I possibly could about the cadet program.

Early in my career I was acing all the exams and getting promoted ahead of what I would have expected.

Acting as If

I would wear my uniform every week and it would look immaculate.

It was important to make sure my boots were shined to the best of my ability and that the rest of my uniform also looked immaculate.

My goal was to be the standard that other cadets follow.

Leadership skill is about influence, and I was expecting to set the example as a leader.

I acted as if I was the top cadet in my unit long before I actually was.

I would imagine myself racking up accolades for having a great week to week performance.

The law of attraction will work when you start acting as if.

I would think of myself as the CWO in my unit long before I ended up getting that promotion.

Visualization is meant to instill belief that your dream is reachable.

In visualization you want to imagine yourself being the person you want to be. Doing the things you want to do, and having the things you want to have.

Having a presence about yourself that you are important is another thing. The self-belief you need to manifest is key. Telling yourself stories about yourself that line up with your long-term vision.

To manifest your goal, its key to act as if.

What would you be doing if you already had it?

In 2012, I was appointed as the Sergeant Major of my unit and promoted to Chief Warrant Officer.

When you reach a big goal, you’ll wonder what’s next. This is because success doesn’t stop, and I was wondering what my next goal would be after that.

I left my Army Cadet unit as someone who truly cared about the success of those around me. I was also the leader of my unit long before I was in charge of it.

The thing that distinguished me from most was that I truly cared about making those around me better. The example I set as a leader was why I was an effective leader, I didn’t have to speak much to inspire the cadets I was leading.

I also saw it as paramount to grow the leadership potential of those I was in charge of.

When you have a giver’s mindset, the universe will work overtime to actually help you.

Takers on the other hand face a lot of resistance from the universe.

The more you help the universe, the more the universe will want to help you. The universe alredy knows exactly what you want.

You don’t have to try to tell the universe what you want, the universe is already bringing you closer to your desire.

The stronger the desire, the easier it will be to manifest it.

To your success,

Angus
